Hi, I recently got my cgem dx and I'm thinking about buying a Ritchey Chretien scope. I have been looking at the 10 and 12 inch carbon scopes from GSO and I see that the 12' weighs about 18 kg. So my question is do i dare to mount this to the cgem dx without suffering from tracking errors when mounted with camera, guiderscope etc?

limits , its very large and heavy. The 10" should be ok if theres no wind .

The metal tube GSO 10" RC actually weighs exactly 15.5 - 15.7 Kg. I confirmed this by weighing mine. The cf version weighs in at 14.6 Kg.

I am just going by the stated weight , mine weighs in at 17kg with FT focuser and 2x dovetails
krest the stated weight on that link says its for CF version but the image says otherwise.
does the gso 12 really weigh nearly twice as much as a c11?!!
they dont have a glass corrector right? where is all the weight from?

I think the 12" carbon is new on the market, on the site they have both the metal and carbon tubes, the carbon is somewhat more expensive.
Really nice of you guys to weigh your tubes do you use guidescope or an off axis guider and what mount do you use?

Weighed my 10"GSO RC and it came in at 15.5 Kg and I use a guide scope that comes in at 4.0Kg. Then the extra for the camera etc I should be coming in close to 21Kg on a Losmandy G11.
I also weighed my 10 Meade SCT that was de-forked and put on the GII and it weighs exactly the same as the GSO 10"RC.
The metal tubed 12" RC I have weighs more than my C14. Well it seems that way anyway. I can easily lift my C14 but find the 12" to be a bit heavier to lift. It might well be the length of the tube though, however I don't think a CGEM will carry this scope and produce good imaging results.

I thought long and hard about the weight of the 12" vs the 10" GSO RC and in the end listened to Paul in relation to his 12" and it's weight. I have a Losmandy GII and decided the 12" would be too much for it and so went with the 10". It guides beautifully with the 10" and there is a great reducer for it.
