Clavius: Registax and AviStack comparisons

I reran the Clavius capture through AviStack overnight (10hrs processing time) with the following result:

Registax 5:

AviStack:

There appear to be more obvious fringe patterns around the shadow area on some of the craters in the AviStack version however detail is also clearer. The original captures were in relatively poor seeing conditions with turbulence and high altitude haze, this may be a factor.

WoW!!! That's a huge difference in the outcome. I'm not right up there with processing so i'll leave comments to those in the know.
Cheers,
Duncan

Hi Malcolm

they are both really very impressive images - congrats.

the fringing is very odd isnt it? First thought was that maybe it was ringing due to more emphasis on high spatial frequencies, but there also appear to be "contour lines" inside the shadows - can't think of a mechanism that would explain that. In any case, it does not really detract much from the marvellous image.

Yeah the AS shows more detail, is it not putting points in the black bits of the craters??
