A poor attempt at the Homunculus Nebula (and another M16)

Last nights effort of the Homunculus Nebula, it is really small and only just visible with the 8 inch f6 newt and Canon 1100D at prime focus. It really needs a larger image scale, f20 or something would be nice but I don't have a decent barlow unfortunately.

8x3 second frames at ISO 100. Do you think it would be a good idea to take millions of frames and process it like a planetary image? Get ready for take two

Also grabbed another M16, a bit better than my last one, 10x85 second subs, ISO 3200.

Cheers
Jo

Hi Jo, Homunculus is tough with both your and my scopes.[Mine's f5].
Even with a 2x Barlow it would still be quite small. Great try though.
Really like your M16. I imagine more subs would make it even better.

The Registax route could be worth a try with the Hom. Have a go.

Thanks a lot Ray, I will have another go next time with lots of subs and see what happens

That M16 picture is excellent. Maybe crop the outer portion - with the star trails and have a keeper.

hi Jo,

nice work!
always good to see people experiement! i am pretty sure i remember somebody who had processed the humunculus like planetary and used heaps of frames. You may wish to reduce the exposure time further to avoid the core blow out, or perhaps do a combo of exposures.

good luck,

cheers

I liked your capture of homunculus. It is very similar with mine, This target is very difficult. Eta is very strong, and the nebula very faint.
I stacked with Registax 6 and I used the wavelets to enhance the image.
