Sunset phenomena

Saw this at sunset this arvo.

Initially thought it was Crepuscular Rays, but they stayed constant for over ten minutes, so I'm not convinced it was just shadows cast from clouds beyond the horizon...

The two images were taken 10 minutes apart.

Any thoughts??

Cheers,

I saw it from Nambour too. I'm not sure if it was exactly the same but it was certainly very similar.

Excellent images sir. i was gonna photograph them too but decided to eat dinner instead . Really i was disappointed thinking they were bands of low transparency atmosphere, and was silently cursing because Jupiter was right in the middle of one!

Thanks for the comments - just an iPhone snap. First one is a bit blurry, but it nailed the focus on the second one.

Must have been a slow moving cloud bank...

Them's Crepuscular Rays alrighty. If you turned around and looked to the east you may have also spotted some Anticrepuscular Rays. True !
I didn't beleive the word even existed let alone the Rays.

I shot these a couple of years ago looking east at sunset, looking west looked like yours. Took me three months or so to work out they were anticrepuscular rays.....they looked like a beam of darkness coming out of the east and passing over head, very unnatural
regards brad
