Lagoon Nebula - M8 - Two Edits

Good Day To All
Lagoon Nebula -M8
Really bad coma spoiled what I thought to be fairly good data
86 x 300 sec ,ISO 400 ,Dark's & Flats +- 60
Exposure used 7.10 hours , deleted 3,45 hours LP related.
Experimented with different approaches to editing this one , with mixed feedback off course.

I bought a coma corrector last week ,as exited as can be that my coma woes are a thing of the past , only to discover that my SW200P can not accommodate 2" inserts , now I have to save up for a new low profile focuser a real bummer, in the mean time I going to attempt smaller scale targets with the aid of a Barlow to avoid most of the coma errors.
(The Lens Correction Tool in CS6 sorted 75% of the coma errors but unfortunately it does distort the whole image to the extent that it can not be plate solved.)

Thanks for looking.
Andre

Andre,

your first image, LagoonIce1, is superb. Love it.
How did you process it differently to the second image? The second image seems really flat, but the first one really pops off the screen...

Good work. If you have been following my images, I have submitted a myriad of versions of the Lagoon, but nothing that approaches that!

Well done!

DJ Scotty

Overall a pretty nice looking Lagoon there Andre the left hand version looks the best but yes I can see the Lagoons shape has been bloated by the PS lens distortion fixer function...The overweight Lagoon

Hi, Andre,
The image on the left is great. If we take the coma as a given and don't worry about it, you've got a great shot of the Lagoon, with all our favourite small features, like the Emu, the Hair Dryer, Mrs Logie, and the Tyrannosaur, all sharp and clear.

Really nice job Andre, Coma is a pain. But even despite your troubles you have produced a very detailed image, congratulations mate. Keep them coming!
