At the Kilcoy tip is a very solid looking piece of steel that is just aching to be turned into a heavy duty pier.
I've been assured that it would be over kill for me to use it to hold up my little mount, but I hope there is someone here in SEQ who could make use of it.
It's around about 1800mm in length, and the steel would be close to an inch thick. The tip was closed today, but if you're interested, I can get exact measurements.
I don't know how much they want for it yet.
I'm heading down your way in 10 days H.
But I'd have to charge you freight and fun excise, as there is no way I'd be able to fit THAT in the car as well as my imaging gear.
Awesome find, a bit long but i think your Heq5 would look great on that. If it was shorter i would jump at it. A pier would definately make things easier and scope use more liklely. Its on my list of one day projects
You could cut just pour a slab with this piece hanging half way in it. Drill a plate (thick steel) that you have drilled to suit your mount, and bolt it to the top using the existing flange. Simple, and pretty cheap.
It looks like 6 inch diameter pipe with plain flanges welded on, so with any real weight it will be a bit flexy. But, if it's cheap, and you're not hanging too much off it, it should be worth the effort.
