Jupiter 1 June- Io and GRS transit

Celestron 6 on EVO
Cloud, finally, rolled back as it approached 10.30pm in Canberra and I was able to enjoy views in my 10 inch Dob and capture a few nice images in the C6 of Io and the GRS in transit with Ganymede close. If I squint hard I can even imagine I can see indistinct albedo markings on Ganymede.

Very nice image Ross, I can definitely see detail coming through on Ganymede, great result. Even more impressive being captured with a 6 inch scope.

Thanks for the likes. I wish I encountered seeing like that more often, in this case it may have been produced by the cloud cover that had just dispersed and had slowed the rate of temperature drop for a while. I guess if I set up for longer nights I would improve my chances. Anyway it is captures from such occasional short episodes of good seeing that are usually needed to convince me that my telescope is not broken!

Great shot of Jupiter, clearly see the disturbances around the Red Spot and resolving Ganymede into a disc, well done.

Hi Ross,

I enjoyed that view visually from Bungonia, probably a bit later than 10.30. I didn't know about the transit, I just happened to look. The cloud that had built up all day dissipated pretty quickly after sunset and we had a great night until a bit after midnight, at which time the effect of Friday's marathon caught up with me.

That's a nice shot too, you get lots more detail than can be seen visually.

Absolutely fantastic, Ross!

I was watching it from Sydney and made a sketch.

Thanks for the complements Dunk and Jeff, I enjoy your more skilled renditions of the might Jove.

Yes it was a good night for viewing David and nice sketch Ilya. The laptop provides a very enlarged camera recording image of Jupiter but the considerably smaller image of a much more vibrant and luminous Jupiter and the red sliver of the turbulent GRS and the wider view of the moons through the eyepiece has far more impact. The image was from 11.10pm

You were sketching at 170x while my F5 Dob was at 192x or so with a 6.5mm Morpheus eyepiece so we were seeing pretty similar views!
