I moved to S. Melbourne from Germany in early October - happy to go out stargazing with anyone planning to take their scopes out into the countryside.
I joined the ASV and unfortunately haven't had much time to join their excursions, and took my scopes out twice but had rotten luck with clouds and wind - I've got a big truck, so if anyone wants to tag along, I'll probably head up north at some point in February again (most likely Mt. Ida, which is nice despite a bit of light pollution).
Best days for me are weeknights, so let me know if you're planning on heading out and want to join!
Hi John
We have a camp coming up early March at Snake Valley just the other side of Ballarat. 4 nights (Friday 11th to Monday 14th) and the Monday is a public holiday so should be good.
I will be posting info very shortly, will keep you posted!!
A good place for summer nights is the car park at the Lake Mountain Ski Resort... dark skies + altitude! They lock the access road in the colder 6 months of the year because of the snow risk, but warmer months it's open.
Also just spent a weekend near Avoca at a nice little farm-stay place, lovely dark skies, and you can set your scope up mere meters from hot running water, a kitchen, and toilet!
