Hey from Bathurst

Hey all, Been looking for a group based in the sourthern hemisphere for awhile now (wasn't looking to hard to be honest). After looking at the forums have gotten lots of tips that have helped me already. The biggest thing I still welcome tips on is reading any sort of starmap. I can use Stellarium and other programs just on paper its complete fail.

So my little background in Astronomy is I have been doing a little bit of astrophotography and have a skywatcher 102/1300 on a EQ2 mount. Don't have a tracker so haven't attached my camera to my telescope but one day would love to get some DSO.

that's about it from me.

Nick

Awesome to see others from Bathurst on here. One of the biggest issues im having at the moment is finding a good place to setup to take some photos. last night I took some up on the south side of the mount. haven't lived in Bathurst long so don't know the area too well.

Hello,

Have you considered Mt Ovan's just a bit east of Bathurst? (About 20 odd k towards Lithgow)

I have actually never played astronomy out there, but have played amateur radio up there and there are quite a few nice dark and out of the way spots that are not too hard to find.
Cheers

North or south are good.

I like the bridle track way because it is so dark.

I have found ophir road near the rocks (30min drive) is awesome and I have been going to evans plains road. near someone's house but its great nice and dark. puts a nice hill between you and Bathurst. (just have to get past the smell).

might have to try the bridle track.

was also told to try towards Chifley dam. but went for a picnic out there on the weekend didn't find a good spot to setup for night shots.

do you know a good track out there to take. I had a look today on my way past and didn't see an easy one to take unless I need a 4wd??
