Running Chicken HaRGB

Well, this is by far my longest integration so far at just shy of 47 hours. This particular version is at a lower resolution than I’d like. I’m working on a higher resolution version but I’m still figuring out the best way of working on it.

This is a four panel mosaic of:
464x300s Ha
164x180s RGB
46.87 hours total

Updated High res Link

I was hoping that imaging the RGB on both sides of meridian would help even out some of the optical issues but it didn’t
All four frames suffer from astigmatism and tilt in various directions and decreasing the tilt increases the astigmatism

Enjoy the 10MP version at 3”/pixel

A heroic effort, and we can see the running chicken!

As well as the obvious goodness, I particularly like the starry background, including the wonderful open cluster on the far left, and the dust lanes above.

Best,
Mike

Beautiful image Colin! Very well done.

Not sure if the 47 hours was worth it though - Mike seems to have brought out a lot more detail with a quick snap shot?

Tony.

I hate to say it Colin but I will - you’ve lost the Boks Globules. My only criticism. I think you need to mask them and bring up the contrast.

Now that aside. 47 hrs???!!! Seriously? That’s heroic. I like the star field left bottom and the expanse

Thanks M&T. Still looking for the best way of combining Ha to the RGB but what I’ve got at the moment doesn’t destroy the stars at the moment. Like you, I like the Ha adding to the image and not losing the stars like when making Ha as a luminance.

Thanks Mike, that’s the chicken I need to put in the oven.. that’ll make it nice and toasty red!

The 47 hours is definitely worth it for the faint Ha that is along most of the right side of the image. It’s now showing up so well in this version but when I process the full res image it shows up as a muddy region as opposed to black. This is where deep integrations win out

Also, Mike did the Seagull Nebula, not the Running chicken

A lot of the is the resolution drop that I’m trying to fix. I’m looking for the best way of running deconvolution, I’ve tried a few times and I’ve got another thing to test to tonight.
When I manage to upload a 210 megapixel image at 0.65”/pixel the bok globules show up a lot nicer than at 3”/pixel.

Hey Colin, it's nicely framed and seamlessly assembled but the saturation is a bit bedazzling!

So much so I feel that it's overpowering the detail below.
imo if you backed it off it will be a much stronger image.

This is not HaRGB, it's hot spicy tabasco.

Red Rooster anyone?

Yep, I’d back the h-alpha blend off just a tad.

It's a Hot & Spicy!huge hours Col...lot of work you might want to tame that Ha with some lum or (Sudo lum) in the blend and you should get your boks back.

Yes the 47 hours is worth it - I'm lucky to get 47 minutes - I'm still into quantity over quality - but I'll get to 2 hours+ one night. (The image Mike posted above is the one I referred to as more detailed - it is definitely a running chicken - yours is great, but no feathers)

Working and working on a less saturated image. Need to do some HDR as well to reduce the central brightness.

I could put 15% Ha into the blue channel and go pink

My Ha blend at the moment is simply adding Ha to the red channel as a normalised Max function and then just editing the RGB. I did some more natural saturation in PixInsight and then did some more in Lightroom and went over the top!

It’s more the saturation that I’ve overdone!
I’m still fiddling with the best way of combining the different layers.

Okay, just reprocessed it from scratch and now I've got a full resolution image uploaded with the detail within the brighter regions preserved.

High Res Link

There are registration issues around the centre which are from a combination of tilt and astigmatism, when this is fixed I should get some nice tight stars!
