Hi all,

The setting Moon lights up the landscape as an Aurora Australis display dances on the horizon and The Milky Way stretches overhead.

Oatlands, Tasmania, 20th of May 2013
360 x over 180 degree panorama made from 20 individual 14mm images. Images stitched together in PTGui Pro.

Something a little bit different from the everyday. Taken the same night as my last upload "Tranquility." It was shot about half an hour later from beside the sandstone rock outcrop at about the 11 o'clock position in this fisheye projection.

Agree with Greg - I'm sure these are very challenging and tricky images to get right, but I'm just not a fan of fisheye or circular presentations.

That's just me though.

The content is beautiful though!

I like the projection because the sky is undistorted, at the expense of the ground. I prefer it to a flat 360 pano which mangles the sky/milky way into an unnatural shape. So I guess it depends what you prefer mangled vs unmangled

This is just a brilliantly executed shot. Colours etc all look very natural.

Projection does take some getting used to, especially with the greater than average ground coverage (for an all-sky pano).

A very nice "portal" image, Greg! The moon worked well illuminating the foreground and the Aurora is just sublime.

Thank you very much for all the great and honest feedback everyone. I really appreciate it The main aim of this shoot was to one day produce one of those interactive 360 degree panoramas where you can zoom in and fly around, but thought it would be fun in the meantime to produce this projection.

Yes very nice indeed Greg. I found myself turning my head upside down to look at the foreground on the sides and top! It's good to see the full stretch of the Milky Way undistorted for a change too.
