M20 11.7 hours

I was pretty lucky to pick up the colour data and luminance data for this object in the last few days. I could have collected more data but felt it did not need the extended integration.

There is some slight mis-registration in the stars which is puzzling as the colour combine seemed to produce this result. It is only minor but enough to bug me.

I do like the Jet being just visible in the larger resolution image. Also I really like the reflection nebulosity throughout the entire image. And; of course I really like the dark dust lanes dotted about.

A truly fascinating object that cannot be overlooked as a target. The last time I imaged it was in 2009 and that was with a modded 40D. It was high time I did it again with the equipment I have now.

Lovely image Paul!

Crisp detail in the nebula, and rich colour.

Congrats on your Malin awards, your hard work and skill rewarded!

Cheers,

Justin.

A lovely image Paul; a nice wider field shot that shows off a lot of the extended blue reflection nebulosity
Great to finally meet you at the Malin Awards and well done on your award for the M42 / Running Man nebulae!

Thanks all for the comments.

Ian good quality data with good signal makes for easy processing. This is a good area to image because everything is so bright and so signal is easily obtained.

Yes nice to finally meet you too David. I wish I had more time to talk on the night and over the weekend.

Bob feel free to use it as a guide. Although there are many fine examples on the net of this object. I still think Jay Gabany's image of this is superb with rich tones and very sharp detail. I would use his image as a guide myself.

Absolutely, it is on my list. Just need to install the flattener and get the STXL back; which as I understand it is on the way back to Australia. Might be another month before I am back imaging with the RC12 at this stage. Marcus's image of it is similar to how it would look on the RC12.

Nice and deep. I like the fainter reflection around the left side towards M21 coming out - don't see that often. Well done.

Yes that is interesting, it is ever so faint, but discernible. I put that down to the 20 minutes on the colour that brings that out.

The 1st image fair pops. Nice processing to give that effect. The 2nd thumbnail is a completely stupid size, skip that.

Thanks Fred. Yeah the second is to show the jet visibility but I take your point.

Very nice M20 Paul, I find the color balance spot on and also lots of details recorded, I would have bet this was imaged with a larger scope than a 4"!
As usual a very fine job

Clear skies

Both images really show great detail. The color is outstanding and how great is it to just have a great night of seeing with dark skies!
