QHY to bring out APS-C mono Sony sensor

QHY has said that theyíre going to be releasing the IMX342 which is a 31.5 mono APA-C sensor.

Colin is that chip sharing the same back illuminated architecture (BSI) as the ASI294? Feedback from the user beta testing indicated the BSI cooling solution was a problem, in that the entire rear surface could not be cooled, leading to uneven performance, and calibration difficulties. ASI seem to have re-pitched the 294 at EAA, ie video, users. It will be interesting to see how QHY tackles that, and given that it is a mono version, cooling is a given i would think, at least for AP work.

The pixel size of 3.45 micron (6464 x 4852 array) may be a bit small for some applications....

Iím not sure Glen, Iíve done a little bit of digging but havenít been able to find out much on the sensor. QHY made the announcement over night so itís still early days.

I have heard of the cooling issues with the 294 but thankfully the 183 has been issue free as far as Iíve heard.

Pixel size not much smaller than the 1600/qhy163. Might be good on my refractor?

It's very hard to find info. Looks like 12bit, well size 10.5k?

Yeah, the ASI 1600mm has 4656 x 3520 array of 3.8 micron pixels.
(ZWO help me replace a "defective" ASI 183mm for solar imaging with the ASI 1600.)

It seems to work well for me at focal lengths below 1000mm and the ASI 174 with 5.86 micron pixel seems to work better above 1500mm fl.
