Mrs Rick: "what do you want for Father's Day?" Me: "oh, nothing. I'll just get myself a little astro toy." Mrs Rick immediately switches off all mental processing and interest: "that's nice dear."

Nice one, Rick

Welcome to the dark side, or should that be, lower-noise side

Thanks, Dunk. The ASI1600 looks like a great fit for this application. The smaller sensor won't tax lenses too much and low read noise will allow short subs on a less capable mount like the Star Adventurer. The theory looks good, apart from taking a bit of a punt on how well my NB filters will work at very fast f-ratios. Now I just need to prove it in practice

Could have just painted the red on the camera black. Mrs Rick - "What's that dear?". Mr Rick - "Nothing, it's the same DSLR I've had for years!"

However a 9.25 Celestron SCT is the same colour as the 8 in version and a QSI583 is the same colour as a DSI II and a Tak em200 mount looks a lot like a White EQ6.

He's had the same carton of Asahi for several years too.

What's amazing is that my(1) SW ED80 Black Diamond somehow faded it's colour over time to look an awful lot like a white TMB92SS.

(1) I mean "my(2) hypothetical"

(2) I mean "my friend's"

I reckon the biggest heist for me was (allegedly) swapping a 2" 180mm GSO extension tube with a Starizona Hyperstar III. Now that's ROI on contrebande.

One tube looks much like any other, fortunately.

One warning that I would give, although the ASI1600 has a small sensor, it also has suitably small pixels! The smaller sensor helps with correction from off-axis issues but the small pixels don't help hide the on-axis ones

Thanks, Suavi. I'll try to live up to those expectations

Understood, Colin. I have a couple of very good lenses so hopefully the main problem will merely be finding good focus at very fast f-ratios
