An Eclipse Triptych - timelapse

Hello,

I recently compiled a time lapse of the three eclipses we've had this year:
  • 15th April - total lunar eclipse
  • 29th April - partial solar eclipse
  • 8th October - total lunar eclipse

The video is available here:

https://vimeo.com/108876391

which includes some time lapse sequences as well as various other behind the scenes and landscape shots I took while on the trips to the various locations.

I've attached a few of the still frames from the two TLEs to this post.

cheers
Geoff

some beautiful pictures and an absolute awesome video compilation of timelapses there Geoff!

I think you have managed to convince me that 1 dslr is nowhere near enough!! probably more like 5!

What was the close up lunar taken on? was it an alt az mount?

Cheers,

Rusty

Hi Rusty,

Thanks! You're not wrong about number of cameras required. I only have two, and usually feel like I need at least three more!

Yes the telephoto TLE was on an alt/az mount, AKA a geared tripod head! No tracking, I just let it drift and then repositioned when required (every few minutes). I then used a combination of custom scripts and plugins to align the images. There was no rotation applied, only x/y displacement.

cheers
Geoff

Great work Geoff. I was going to ask how you did the close up lunar eclipse sequence. Might have to hit you up for the name of those plugins one day. May have a use for them on something similar soon.
