Lost in space

Okay I'm confused. In astronomy if north is up, east is usually left unless there's a prism or something in the optical path right? But on a compass and if I'm lost in the bush, east is to the right of north. So how come it's the other way around for astro?

I better not go hitchhiking in the galaxy - I'd get lost.

A normal map is put down on the ground to read, wheras a space chart is put up above your head. That is what flips east and west over.

Without magnetic poles I doubt a compass would even work in space. Better use a GPS (Galactic Position System )..
