El,

Don't listen to a word they say!!!!!!!

Get the GS 12" Dob Deluxe. Stuff fitting it into a car. Trolley it to the hills. LOL

At Andrews the deluxe comes with the works . . . Crayford focuser (Heaps better than standard Rack & Pinion), Blackened inside the tube, Mirror fan, BK7 Glass, centre-spotted mirror.

Don't worry about the bank manager or the missus. Just get Mega inches! I am biased of course.

Welcome elusiver. You will be happy with the 8" DOB. Don't worry too much about the type of glass in the mirrors. You only get the better quality glass if you buy a bigger t'scope. (ie; not necessary with a small mirror). You will need a 'cheshire' collimation E/P tho. It is an essential tool for a DOB. I do suggest a 'Chandler Planisphere',(large version), a red LED torch, (saves your dark adaption), & a chair tho., as being stable & comfortable whilst viewing is a great help. (saves your back).
Most of your questions have already been answered, but if you have any more, just ask.
Regards, L.
