Forecast was suppose to be clear last night so decided to do some lunar imaging
A lot of high wispy cloud passing by all night and smoke in the air, plus seeing was not great
6” f6 newt on HEQ5
Canon 600D
Televue powermates
BYEOS Planetary mode ( AVI video )
Stacked in Autostakkert 3
Processed in Registax 6
Prime focus
2 x powermates
2.5 x powermate
4 x powermate
5 x powermate
Langrenus Crater ( 5 x zoom )
Petavius Crater ( 5 x zoom )
Tried to clean up the crater images in Registax 6 but the stacked images were poor to start with ( obviously pushed the magnification to hard for the seeing conditions )
Back into DSO imaging on the weekend , hoping some clear nights !!
Nice shots Martin, maybe a bit soft but that's the seeing for you. Reminds me of what I was seeing last night, just doing visual. Too lazy to get the imaging gear out as the seeing didn't look to justify the effort but had a nice time at the eyepiece all the same.
One thing I did notice and your images picked it up too, was a valley running N.E. from Mare Crisium. Was deep in shadow and looked like a deep channel carved through the shore of Crisium. Had never noticed it before and after some research it is the Mare Anguis. Shows up well in your 5th image as the dark valley running out to the bottom left of Mare Crisium.
Pays to look at familiar objects in all lighting conditions, always something different to see or a different way of seeing. Thanks for posting.
Jeff
Thanks , you must have a thorough knowledge of the lunar terrain !! Nice observation
Ryan
Thanks for the kind comment
Don’t get too frustrated , be patient the universe is going nowhere in a hurry
Nice series of Lunar landscapes there Martin. You have processed them well too. That 6 inch holds more than it's own for a smaller aperture. The seeing wasn't great again here in Melbourne last night either as you can see by my Jupiter post.
Thanks Brian and Mick
I enjoy getting down in and around the lunar landscape and when conditions are good and you nail a good one it’s very satisfying
Never get bored imaging and viewing our closest neighbour
Nice work Martin.
Do you realise you can use multiple barlows at the one time.
I once photgraphed ants down the paddock using two 3x and one 2x on a 1200 mm refractor...9600 mm fl☺.
Alex
Thanks Alex
I didn’t know you were an Ant ologist ?
Uncle Al advised Powermates work best as individual accessories as you lose a bit of definition and contrast when you stack them ( they are a different beast to a regular Barlow , substantially more glass )
Thanks for suggesting
Cheers
Sure but its only for fun..although experimenting may find a combination of certain ones can work.
I just think it is neat that you can stack them...mmm what would yours give all up? You could probably see the footprints☺
Alex
I wish I could see the footprints from my little scope , that way we could end all the moon landing hoax rubbish that’s been spun around the globe for decades
Yeh so we built the Saturn 5 , bigger and heavier than a US navy cruiser tipped on its end , with 7.5 million pounds of thrust or 160 million horsepower , multiple stages, multiple modules .....just to orbit the earth for a week. Oh I’m sorry the earth is flat isn’t it ??
Commonsense should prevail but unfortunately in our funny mixed up world , it doesn’t
Food for thought !
