An Englishman was fined (converted to OZ language) $180 for doing 60Kph in a 50kph zone.
He spent nearly $55,000 in court and lawyer expenses to defend himself saying he did not speed. And he still lost the case.
There is a famous Australian case where a barrister went to court over the one penny fare for a ferry.
It went to the Privy Council ( the highest court of appeal in those days for Australia but in England).
Yes there are some D--heads in this world. I may be one of them.
When I first got my drivers license at age 18, I was in a Right Hand only turn lane, I couldn't go straight as I would have driven into the traffic lights.
Anyway I was fined for not having my right hand indicator on and I argued with the cop that its obvious I'm turning right anybody looking would know I was turning right.
So I hired a barrister to plead my case in court and I lost.
The moral of the story don't fight big brother, just pay the fine.
