QHY announce new compact PC for Astro usage

QHY have announced a new portable PC intended for astronomy usage, which sports a number of interesting features and is powered by the Windows 10 operating system. Price and availability is still TBA.

The attached illustration should provide a good indication of features (some of which are much sought after and would typically be provided via other external devices).

Thinking ahead, sure, USB3 would be the way to go. Unfortunately, most, if not all of the instruments and accessories that we use are still USB2.

Hopefully this, along with USB3 reliability, will change in the coming years.

USB3 is backward compatible with USB2. USB3 is fully defined and reliable. USB3.1 is the most recent incarnation of the USB standard.

I use an entry-level Intel NUC...
  • small form factor
  • runs off 12v power
  • 4x USB3 ports
  • built-in wifi (and gigabit ethernet)
  • SATA/SSD ports
  • relatively inexpensive...

It'd be interesting to see what the QHY offers over the above.

mmm, the biggest kill factor in an obs PC is a fan and exposure to the outside, by far. I can just see 6 ventilation holes in the top I think, doesnt bode well. As far as I can tell, intel NUCs have a fan too, thats a deal breaker for me. Only FITs fanless (and sealed) is reliable enough for the job IMO.
