Another M77 image showing the supernova

Here's another shot of M77 showing the supernova. I haven't marked it but it's just to the right of the central bright region. This was only a short exposure and I may follow up with more data tonight if the weather holds.

Cheers

Steve

Superb result. Lots of excellent detail there.

Feeling in a miserable mood for other reasons, then thought about the effect of a supernova on the locals. Perhaps with a type II supernova there are no locals anyway.

Either way, your image helped put things in perspective.

Thanks M&T. Hope you're tot feeling miserable anymore. I feel very miserable around Christmas. Not one of my favourite times of the year.

Thanks Kevin. Don't delay too long because I think the supernova is getting fainter.

Yikes. I've got rain soon too. What magnitude is it at the moment? It looks pretty faint already.

Thanks Peter. I got some reasonably good luminance last night and hope to get some Ha tonight so the best version maybe yet to come.

I think it's about 13.6 at the moment. This website has some details:

Like I said on FB, a month ago I was considering doing an extended run on this target. It is logged into my imaging panel on CCDAP and I was thinking I should really image this target. I decided after some searching around that I would undertake another target which was at a better declination. I suspect by doing this I have missed the chance of a discovery. Sometimes you have to go on your gut instincts. This is a nice rendering of a tough target Steve. Well done.

Thanks Paul. I haven't finished with it yet. I'm going to try some Ha tonight. I only found out about the supernova via a UK colleague.
