Murray Ball RIP

The creator of the wonderful Footrot Flats comic series, has passed away aged 78.

I always loved this series, and hoped that it would go on forever.

I even named my Bull Terrier, "Dog" in honour of this strip.

Grew up reading those on long drives to the grand parents farm. Haven't read one in many years - may have to revisit them again.

Sad! Rip Murray.

I remember my then girlfriend dragging me along to the musical version at the Renmark Theatre. I was very skeptical, given the number of Elvis and Sunday Matinee musicals I had watched over the years!

Turned out to very good and extremely funny, with a very professional cast.

Good one, Dog!

Me to Lewis , I was re-introduced to footrot flats by the NT news when I lived up there and had forgotten how clever the man was , they run the comic strips in their newspaper , great stuff .

Living on a farm, Footrot Flats always struck a chord with me. We breed ponies and one strip comes to mind often.

The first frame is a vet walking away from a cow that has obviously just been preg tested, saying "She's empty" the next frame was Wal exclaiming something along the lines of "But. But, I would lean up against her and you could feel her side bumping in and out, in and out"

The final frame being the vet saying "She was laughing at you"

Every couple of years we will get a mare who appears for all the world to be in foal but after some months turns out not to be "She was laughing at you" being the quote every time!
