A Hubble inspired NB eagle.

Hi all, it's been a pretty wet and wild winter here in Perth and I had some work to do on the imaging system, but it's all sorted and starting to work nicely for spring. I managed to get a few clear nights over the last weekend, so I went for some narrowband data on M16. This SHO composite is made up of about 9 hours worth of subs - I lost a few subs to dew, which I didn't think was meant to happen inside a dome.

Scope is the ASA16"f3.6, camera is the QSI683 using Astrodon 5nm NB filters. Subs were 15 minutes unguided on the DDM85XL and processing in PI. I guess NB colour is always a question of taste! I've also linked to a less cropped image on astrobin, but I'm very pleased with the detail.

cheers, and thanks for looking!
Andrew.

While the contrast looks a little washed out to my eye, it’s a very tidy result.
Nice one

Well done, Andrew! Excellent detail in all the favourite features. Very nice colour.

Could, as Peter said, be slightly more contrasty (darker darks and lighter lights) without losing anything important.

A very good Eagle. As others noted the contrast could be upped.

Thanks Mike and Trish! I'll have a bit of a play in PI and see if I can get a better stretch.

Thanks Mike, there's definitely a consensus emerging here :-)

Cheers Greg, as most of you have noted, and certainly compared to the original 'pillars' image from the stsci team it should be a much darker feature. I've gone a bit too far in experimenting, but I kind of like the attached result as the other extreme!
