Small hair looking damage on new lenses

Hi all,

I received new lenses ordered a few weeks ago yesterday and when trying them in daylight saw some strange small hair looking half moons all over the lenses. I've attached a picture out of focus as it makes it quite clear when zooming in.

I've tried them out last night with my small scope (70mm f/10) on nebulae, clusters and double stars and it looks fine but I'm concerned that this may not be fine when I try them on my much bigger 16'' f/4.5. That scope is currently stored elsewhere in boxes until I can get it to my shed which is why I'm unable to try it out.

My questions are:
  • will the bigger scope make these more visible even at night due to increased brightness
  • if the bigger scope will make it more obvious, would you recommend trying to clean them myself or would you return them

Thanks in advance for any input.

Matt

Not sure what you are talking about.. are they eyepieces? What kind and what brand?

Very probably not the issue...

All I see is dust, it won't affect the view whatsoever.

Thanks for the replies Bojan and Gus.k.

I meant eyepieces rather than lenses, sorry.

They are Celestron X-Cel LX 12, 7 and 5mm. I've attached a higher quality version of the picture that is taken with my phone straight into one of the eyepieces when the telescope is out of focus. Note that I also have 25 and 9mm eyepieces in the same range and they do not exhibit these "markings".

In my testing, it wasn't an issue at night on a small telescope but was an issue for terrestrial observation.

Based on Gus.k's reply, this shouldn't be more of an issue with a bigger aperture. I was concerned that the increased brightness could make it an issue.

Thanks again

All those spots seem to have a radius around the lens. Looks like contamination during polishing? I'd be checking with a loop or a short focal length eyepiece to see if they are scratches and return them if so.
Could be glass defects as well, it happens.
