New Sony 247mega pixel medium format sensor

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/ scroll down a bit.

2.81 micron pixels so even more pressure on the telescope optics.

I wonder if this sensor will make it into astro cameras.

Greg.

I doubt it will be used in a remote setting. Those sort of frame sizes create issues for uploads. And; as you have already mentioned the pixel size creates further issues on long focal length OTA's.

Hi Greg,

I'm not sure that it'd make its way into astrocams given the large ~65mm diagonal medium format sensor. Not many scopes would support that size image circle, so that may be a factor against marketing it, as evidenced by the lack??? of other medium format sensors for dedicated astrocams. Although TAK and AP etc, fans would be happy.

You may have to whip out the mirrorless medium format terrestrial camera instead/while waiting

Best
JA
