I cant beleive you haven't heard of The brilliant Professor Stephen Hawking, author of the famous book:A breif history of time: Universe in a nutshell and many more.
I cannot believe you haven't heard of the famous author Stephen King, whose works have been adapted by some of the greatest directors of all time. Most notably these include the late Stanley Kubrick whose astronomy and space exploration expertise are second to none. He was the one who staged all the fake Moon landings!
Apollo 14. Hand cart! How is that for obscure? I should have known though. That phrase "wheeled vehicle" sounded a bit suspect. And stuffed up the meteoroid one too. Although I thought that was a contentious one.

Same here, Q16 I still believe the last option is the only choice that correctly states facts about a meteriod. But then what do I know.
Those two threw a lot of people. I clarified with Dennis (the questionaire) on both of those, and double-checked with Terry as well (for a second opinion) - we came to the conclusion that there's enough information there to get the correct answer.
I'll post some stats tomorrow, about how many people got right, who got 30/30 etc.
Just had a quick look at the DB, congrats to the following who got 30/30:
- FNQ_View
- astro_south
- mojo (although he's not eligible to win)
- xstream
There were 144 entries in total.
Quite a lot of people got 29/30, will post more stats tomorrow.
Congrats to everyone who entered and thanks for participating in the competition to help celebrate IceInSpace turning 2!
Meteoroid: A small particle from a comet or asteroid orbiting the Sun. Meteor: The light phenomena which results when a meteoroid enters the Earth's atmosphere and vaporizes; a shooting star. Meteorite: A meteoroid that survives its passage through the Earth's atmosphere and lands upon the Earth's surface.
Apologies for the Apollo 14 handcart – with hindsight this one could be labelled a trick question, but that certainly was not the intention.
Guess I won’t be asked to provide any questions for further comps now.
That handcart got me too, otherwise everthing else was ok. Just one question short of a full 30. Oh well thats 3 for me in the draw hope i win this time.
The first vehicle to take off from the moon was also a tricky question.
Nah, I still don't think a meteoroid need have come from a comet or asteroid, and I would not be sure that it needs to be in an orbit about the Sun either. But anyway, the correct answer is Pluto.
I thought it was great and well put together. i spent 17 minutes doing the speed answers and got a few wrong, including the moon wheelybin one, and a few others, but hey only need one right to get that first prize!!
- 144 entries
- Highest score: 30/30, shared by 4 people (FNQ_View, astro_south, mojo, xstream).
- Lowest score: 6/30, shared by 3 people.
- Total number of entries in the draw: 376. (Work out your chances of winning by diving your number of entries by 376 and times by 100 )
- Questions 13 and 27 were the "easiest", with 92% of people getting it right. Question 19 was very close behind.
- Questions 14 and 16 were the "hardest", with only 24% and 43% (respectively) of people getting it right.
Here are a couple of graphs, showing the distribution of the score's people got (expected for an easier quiz), and also a graph showing the percentage% of people that got each question right.
Regarding the draw, it's unlikely i'll be able to do the draw until I get back from holidays, after the 9th October. I'm also yet to secure one of the sponsors to actually draw the name out of the barrel hat
I'll keep you updated, sorry for the inconvenience and making you wait!
