Given I have both the cameras tested with three different settings - I may try this too once the weather clears!

I am back from 6 weeks in Cooma - working for Snowy Hydro - the night skies there were to die for compared to what I see in surban Sydney. Go even a kilometer outside of the city and you could see the full mily way galaxy beautifully clearly!

Well spotted

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the point of using gain below the 12-bit dynamic range setting (around gain 75), other than not blowing out stars, which I've not found a problem at 75

They're just the presets in the ASCOM driver, that's all they were comparing. Dropping below the ~75 Gain region will cause some issues with longer integration when stretching.
