Northern Aurora Viewing

I have seen auroras several times lately.
The first time was in Iceland, an aurora was visible from west to east despite a nearly full moon shining in the south at the same time.
The second time was in Norway with no moon to interfere but too many trees.
The third time was from a ship between Saint Petersberg, Russia and Helsinki. A bright green curtain aurora was moving around in the north and there were many vertical spikes too.
The last time was from the Arctic Circle in Finland. The aurora varied in shape and brightness and was still visible through gaps in the clouds when I lost my clear sky.
The auroras were all brighter than the Milky Way and greenish white in colour.
