Creating bogus members on IIS
It has become pretty obvious to me and a few others that there appears to be a high profile member on IIS who is, at times, actually posing as someone else via an alternative profile. They are pretty obviously using this to denigrate other people's images and laud their own, even accusing other imagers of plagerising data, without evidence. As is usual in such cases one can not be totally 100% sure, so actually naming the culprit can be a little problematic.
I am just interested if others have come across such things on here or on other forums and how it has been dealt with?
Mike

Wow! That sounds a bit shifty hey? Do you have link to a post? Have you had bad pic reviews from anonymous users? I know some people who have different handles on various forums, but on the same forum not. I find it hard enough to remember my username. I'm multiweb in every forum, even in FB and same frog avatar so if I "bag" your pic you'll know it's me

This happened once on a scuba diving forum I was on. In that instance it was actually two or three members trolling others. The admin tried very hard via URL or something like that (I'm not that website or computer literate) to determine who it was and banned them in the end. Apparently you can tell who it is on their member profile (or admin can) via this method and see if they are using the same details.

I'd say the forums track the users IP and user agent so over a period of let's say weeks you can start cross referencing logs and figure out who's using the same connection and devices. Pretty easy to do. Even easier if they have a static IP. I do. No anonymity for me.

I noticed it last night Mike. PM’d you about it.
As a former forensics profiler once told me, you can tell same persons by their hand...be it written or style of language and structure.

Yeah, IP. That's what I meant. I told you I wasn't computer literate.

This is really sad and can kill 'the vibe' so that eventually,
no one shows up.
If its the dive forum i think it is - have a look at it now....no one has posted anything of any interest for months.
I hope that if there is such a thing happening here that the Perp
gives it up before he/she wrecks the place.

Just on this - anyone with a bit of knowledge/skill can get around this issue quite easy.
A better way, but much harder to do, is to profile what is written. It's harder to mask that.
If someone is doing bogus accounts, they're pretty insecure I'd say...

This is better than a soap opera........so much suspense, so much drama..........
I'm staying tuned in for the big plot reveal.....
(Agreed, pretty crappy thing to do, childish)

The more they interact the easier it is to close in on them.

To do that you would need a lot more data. Likely you'd catch them before by more conventional methods.

Seriously folks, it is not funny. The more you make fun of it the more you enable the behaviour.
I was not the complainant, but it doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, once I was given the confidential staff survey results to process. On viewing, I immediately thought this is how Les talks, this is how Kate talks... Since then, I have believed such surveys are really confidential.
