Lens cleaning

I have accidentally put my finger on the lens of the ED127 and have left a finger print. Whats the best way to clean it off?

Thanks I have put it in my favourites. Will go to the camera shop or chemist tuesday and see what I can get.

i just use alcohol or acetone - or any lens cleaning fluid i can get my hands on - i don't like lens tissue/kimiwipes - too abrasive..i prefer a soft cotton bud or cotton wool - then wipe over with distilled water.

if you want to make your own cleaning fluid one recipe is
6 parts distilled H20, 1-2parts pure alcohol , 1 drop liquid detergent - mix & wipe it on.

i don't think people need to be as precious with their lenses..unless the coating has been baked on at far too low a temp (manufacturer error) my understanding is it won't just wipe off

Sequence in order of mark stubbornness :

1. Rocket blower; if that doesn't work, then
2. Lens tissue (one wipe, one tissue, don't wipe with tissue that may have dust on it - scratches), then rocket blower for stray tissue fibres; if that doesn't work, then
3. Lens pen, then rocket blower for stray lenspen dust; if that doesn't work, then
4. Dunno, never had to go this far before. Probably one of the cleaning solution options above,. Or maybe put down the lens, fold my arms and stomp around the room holding my breath til I go red in the face. Something like that.

Be very careful - with dishwashing liquids SALT is commonly added to thicken it - in fact I am not sure adding detergent is a good idea at all although, if you must, I believe car shampoos are salt free...

Here is what I have found very successful:

1. I use a hurricane blower bulb.
2. Only if the lens is quite dusty do I clean otherwise I leave it.
3. Bintel cleaning fluid. Its a great formula and works really well.
4. Dab on the Bintel cleaning fluid with several cotton puffs.
5. Wipe with several non scented white tissues never using the same one twice. Use only a smallish area before discarding.
6. Use blower bulb to get rid of any tissue lint.

That works well and only takes a few minutes. Under bright lighting and clean conditions. Use a torch if needed to be able to see the lens at different angles to catch any areas missed.
