DSLR.BOT for Iphone/Ipod/Ipad

G'day All

I recently stumbled on a great little IOS app for Iphone, Ipod or Ipad. It is called DSLR.Bot and assists in IR control of your DSLR Camera (Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax).

It provides the following control functions:

• Shoot
• Long Exposure
• Time Lapse
• Bracketing
• Movie Mode

It only cost me just over $5 (best five bucks I ever spent! ).

You will need an IR (Headphone Jack) transmitter which can be bought commercially (around $10 - $20) or a cheaper homemade ebay version (around $3).

Alternatively you can make one through a simple and easy to make DIY project.

Well worth a look and I highly recommend getting it if you are looking to get a remote for your DSLR camera.

I used this trial apps two years ago with home made IR transmitter, but it didnt work properly. The trial apps gave me only option to trigger shutter which only works intermittently (it could be my transmitter fault). But it is good apps if you are not using laptop.

This app is working fine for me. I think it may have come a long way in the past year!

Like said it is great in the field and is much cheaper and more controllable than any of those canon wired or IR remotes.

Do you keep the iphone facing towards camera all the time during exposure?

I have trial app somewhere and give it go again to see if it works.

The Canon 1100D is not listed so I presume it doesn't have IR capabilities.

Is there an add-on that can plug into the camera to make it work? If so, can anyone recommend a suitable unit?

Yes the IR transmitter has to be in the general direction of the IR on the camera, similar to using a tv remote.

But this can be overcome if you make an extended DIY IR transmitter cable which you can attached to the scope, allowing your Iphone etc to be in your hand or attached to the mount leg etc. Or you can get commercial extension cables from ebay etc fairly cheap, the example pic shows a 50ft cable.

But I have no problems using it from side on and to the front slightly.

I know there are plenty of cheap IR transmitter/receievers on ebay, maybe worth a try!
