It's a sign of the times I suppose, and perhaps my own cynicism raising its ugly head, but these days, I have become accustomed to receiving poor service and badly made goods much of the time. But every now and again, you come across an example of good products and good service and faith is restored - until the next time.
I have recently had one of those revelations on the " Road to Harvey Norman" with my SBIG STF8300. It wasn't cooling right and the power to the filer wheel had died. So I sent it back to Bill Lynch in the States.
Well, I heard back from him today and for about A$500 I'm getting what amounts to a new camera. He has stripped and cleaned it down to its bare bones, replaced the cooler, fixed the i2C unit, upgraded the firmware and it's ready to come home. All up, under a month.
For my money, that's pretty damned good. My faith has been somewhat restored.
I have been buying a load of connectors and so on for a rewire of my race car. I am pretty cynical about service but a couple of times I have bought bits from a mob in Queensland (me being in Vic)
You have to smile at the service when you order parts on Thursday after lunch and they are in the mail that day. The last parts I bought from them arrived the following day!
If you mean me, I was buying connectors from Connector Tech ALS in Darra QLD.
I have bought bits from them in moderate sized dribs and drabs over the last year as budget allows and almost everything has been dispatched by the next morning.
Businesses that neglect customer service do so at their own peril.
Having said that there are still diamonds in the rough that exemplify true commitment to the customer.
Bintel would be an example, every time I have stepped in their door I walk out with what I need, more knowledge, and very satisfied. Woodpecker Model Railway shop in Pendle Hill is the same. It’s no surprise both are enduring busineses that will be around for a long long time.
