Hi All,

Right now: Houses of the Holy -- Led Zeppelin. Simply brilliant. I've hardly been able to listen to anything else in the last couple of weeks (must have listened to it half-a-dozen times). Even when I'm not actually playing it, I can't get "The Rain Song" out of my head.

Best,

Les D

Nice one, Les.

No Quarter is at the top of my favourite Led Zeppelin tracks. Lysergically-influenced music, mmm.

Then again, all Led Zeppelin tracks are my favourite Led Zeppelin track.

So I'm not the only sentimental one on the forum.
"Thank You", "Bron y aur", "That's the Way"....etc etc
Beautiful ballads.
ATM I'm alternating between Led Zepp 1 & 2. Loving the blues.

Sentimental? Try Beth Neilson Chapman. She can bring tears to this blokes eyes in 5 seconds flat with some of her love songs...

I've always been partial to great music that has an underlying theme or message. I tend to listen very closely to the message, as most good songs, irrespective of genre and epoch, have an oratory undercurrent.

Nickelback have encompassed what is wrong with society and given a message of hope, stating that if we all just took a brief moment of time out of our lives, everyone can, could, should, would make a difference... if we just set aside our differences. I don't think there is anyone with a conscience who would not be touched by this video. The fact that Mandela actually suffered for almost three decades before leading his country out of the pit of despair speaks volumes to the human psyche. The others in the video contributing to my belief that there is hope, in spite of my own personal opinion that the world "might" be better off without us.

Considering the current state of play for a rather insignificant species call "Homo Sapien", I believe that we should start looking inward rather than to "divine intervention" to guide us. Considering the vast difference of opinions on "who said what" several hundred to more than two thousand years ago, religion may not necessarily the best teacher on how to conduct ourselves when "common sense" (which I believe is "uncommon") is a better way of progressing humanity. Please do not get me wrong, "Traditional" religions serve a great purposes in steering the overall "moral compass" of society, but we must recognize that the problem is greater than religion itself... History, as they say, is ultimately written by the those who were victorious, thus I will always call into question the propagada without direct evidence as to its validity.

In that vein, and from the perspective of the modern society and those who are also trying to convey a message, I love the scripted paragraph from "The Matrix", which will always remain one of my favorites...

Agent Smith articulated...

"I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren’t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we... are the cure."

This post has now turned into a poignant, personal philosophical message which I was originally considering to aggressive, however, when I account for the intellect of the audience reading this, I expect that an equally even response will follow... please accept my apologies if I have offended anyone here.

FYI: I just finished the Beyonce / Shakira video "Beautiful Liar" ... completely apropos with respect to this post, as once again, the dark side of (in this case) men is conveyed via a message of deceit.

OIC!

BTW: "Beautiful Liar" is one of the sexiest video's I've seen (if you are "Latino", you'll know that I mean)...

OIC,

This one's for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu67pzugkMQ

Simply one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard; you know how they say the voice becomes an instrument? Holy moly.

The entire concert is incredible.

OMG

Yanni... my much better half is in life loves him and I have to say, when it come to articulating feelings without uttering a single word, his music is so penetrating that you have no choice but to front up to the fact that even men must confront and deal with their "female, soft" side...

"I'm a human being" ... what a classy guy. Linda Evans must have been so changed by a guys like this...

Considering I have a very dark side, I could never hope to be able to live up to his philosophy...

I so wish I were more positive on humanity... at least my better half has enough for the both of us...

OIC!

<Late Edit: Thanks for the link... I think a may cry... >

"Was raining in my heart
Falling deep inside of me
Drowning in my soul
This silence rushes over me
I am breath against this fire
And I will not turn away
I'm waiting for time to carry me
Like a tempest to the sea
Standing strong
Watching over
Love will keep me believing
Thru the dark...can you hear me calling
Holding on when I'm dreaming
Love is all...Love is all
Thundering on high
Love was all I knew before I fell
And now the shots of man
Are echoing inside myself
I am breath against this fire
And I will not turn away
I'm waiting for time to carry me
Like a tempset to the sea
Standing strong
Watching over"

<Super late edit: My better half an I saw Yanni in the early 90's at Fiddler's Green (Denver). I'm from Colorado... "Rocky Mountain High".. may explain a lot.. lol>

Fantastic, innit?

If you like that track, check out the rest of the Tribute album. It was recorded live at the Taj Mahal. Just insane.

I have his entire discography.

My missus has quite a few of his albums... in additional to Kitaro, Tri Atma, Cusco etc... she was seriously into World music in the 90's (thus I was as well, quite infectious)...

A bitter twist with respect to lyrics, so you know how serious I am at listening to them....

Anyone "really" listen to Eminem's "Lose Yourself", or see the movie "8 Mile" and really understand it? Pure Americana... both good and bad.

Credit where credit is due... Eminem is very articulate... ("Barely knows his own daughter... " ... I can relate)

Haha, wow! I have several Cusco albums (Apurimac series).

I just listened/watched Love is All again. I never fail to get goosebumps.

Vann Johnson has said that singing that at the Taj Mahal was the highlight of her career.

Imagine being in the audience and getting to witness that spectacle? Wow!

Apparently, several members of the orchestra were rather sick -- they had drinks served to them with the ice cubes being made out of the water straight from the River Ganges, lol! Watching the DVD, you'd never know any of them were not 100%.

"So I serve my words naked, never in sugar coats
And I write more quotes than a ****ing big book of quotes"

Direct hit... ha ha ha... reminds me of "Good Will Hunting" in the bar scene where the "high brow nub" was trying to pick up Minnie Driver by quoting "scripture" from high brow novels/text books... Matt Damon's response was basically... "think for yourself ya 'tard..." ..

ROTFFLMFAO...

BTW: I know she'll love it, every "Karen" loves anything from her "namesake"... although I am concerned with the "plunged it in deep" reference.. lol
