Oh, my God. When did this happen!?
Alan, that's my favourite DT album.
I'm in shock.
Edit: ARGH! Read the web page. This is seriously screwed. My favourite band. My favourite guitarist. My favourite drummer. ARGH! DAMN!
Seen 'em in Sydney, twice. It'll never be the same. : (

Just read JP's response:
Obviously you've all heard the news of Mike's departure from Dream Theater by now.
I felt it important to open up a line of communication in an effort to kill any rumors and to promote clarity.
I love Mike and really hope he's happy and successful in whatever he does.
I realize that Mike was always the one to actively stay in touch with our fans, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to try to be at least a bit more present on both mine and DT's websites and to let you all know that I am here.
To me, Dream Theater's story is one of defying the odds, standing for true integrity in music and creating our own success through perseverance and hard work, so although Mike's leaving is heartbreaking, I still look forward to an amazing musical journey that continues on with some of the most talented and respected musicians and composers on the planet!

Alan,
Try some Ulver. This is the final track off their masterpiece Kveldssanger (translation: twilight songs).

Gorgeous acoustic black metal.

I've been listening to a young woman named Sierra Hull. This video shows her as a precious talent. To be honest the mando player I play with could do this comfortably but then he has been playing for 25+ years.

This is her at about ??16?? and she is getting very good. I also like the tune.

Just to show how talented she is here she is on the guitar. (Remember the fingering on a mando is different to a guitar - guitar is in fourths and the mando in fifths.) She even survives the loss of the bass - and of course I'd suggest that the loss of the bass is traumatic ..

I've heard that. Not exactly my genre but very listenable. Nick Cave said of him 'no one could take hold of a song like Johnny Cash.' In fact I've just put some JC on.
