Transportation of scope

Hey guy, I bought an 8" dob a few months ago and in my excitement to get everything going, i threw out the box/foam inserts that came with it.

..... I know.

So, I have been trawling around the net trying to find a place that sells cases/bag for tubes, with the exception of custom made ones for specific meade models etc, I'm yet to have any joy.

So my question is, how do you guys go about transporting your scopes? Obviously I'm pretty keen to get out and about in search of dark skies, but being my first scope, I'm always pretty hesitant until I know how I can transport this thing around without it getting scraped and scratched and/or worse during transit.

Thanks in advance!!!

Jon

Hey man, 8" Dob here too.

For the scope, I wrap it in a quilt and put it in the back seat. I strap it in with seatbelts on both sides so it doesnt get damaged if I have to slam the brakes on.

As for the mount, that goes in the front seat strapped in as well. I made the mistake of putting the mount in the boot a couple of months ago and an edge got chipped. Not the end of the world but better to avoid it.

If I had to use the box, it wouldn't fit in the car.

Doonas is excellent!
IIRC Orion makes padded scope cases (with handles no less) if you need to carry it for any distance.
