Star Queen
Something old and new....
Some fresh h-alpha data added to the RGB data I captured a while ago
(which also could have used a freshen-up, but the Sydney weather has not been congenial )
The link is here

Hi Peter,
it's almost unbelievable that you can take such excellent images from
the light polluted location of Sydney.
That part of the sky is one of the most photogenic areas anywhere to be seen.
cheers

Superb. Wonderful high impact colour and detail and the stars are sublime. A very high end image.

Hi Peter
That is truly a spectacular prize winning shot, makes me want to start taking pictures of nebulae, but unfortunately I have an obsession with galaxies .

Ta. but Not prize worthy I'm afraid.....the original data (which is very similar) didn't even get a HM at the Malin's a couple of years ago...the man is inscrutable.
That said... Who knows? ...the new H-alpha data alone might do very well somewhere else

Thanks Greg. The AFFR gives me a beautifully corrected field at F6....but it's a bit of a PITA to get rid of the urban sky-glow gradients that come with the wider/brighter field.....sigh...a dark site would be nice...

I can attest to that. The difference between my semi rural home and my dark site for the CDK was quite significant.
Maybe a stint at Martin's place would be good to see how much difference it makes without having to get a rural property.
Greg.

Excellent rendition Peter, I’ve tried this a few times with 600-700mm instruments but just cannot seem to get that level of detail
I’d sometimes take steady skies over dark ones especially when you can blend in Ha. It looks like your Ha was taken under some pretty steady skies.

Are we talking 700mm aperture here? or focal length?
The seeing was good when I grabbed this, but not remarkable.
That said, I think with its plasma loops this has to be one of the most spectacular nebulae you can image. Good to hear you liked the result.

Thanks guys...and apologies for the tardy response. I have been scouting
locations for a possible semi-rural retreat and observatory! It would be awesome to escape the urban glow of Sydney.... time will tell.
