Venus gets evening star now, but for SH observers the ecliptic is still low after sunset.
So I tried at 17:00 AEDT in the 34˚C outdoor temperature in Penrith with my 11cm ED and got it, easily.
I filmed it a few seconds by holding my Powershot S100 behind the Panoptic 24 and got the best frame from it.
Here it is.
The cirrus like veils are no clouds, but Sun's glare as it shone directly on the objective.
