WOW there is a rather large grouping of sunspots. I found them quite by accident - was testing the c8 and thousand oaks filter before an school presentation on Tuesday, after all its been ages since i used the gear. At first i thought it was dirt of insect poo. After viewing through the c8 i put the 60mm lunt on the mount - wow huge prominences and the sunspot group was really apparent. looking forward to looking at them again tomorrow and hopefully it will still remain clear for Tuesday for Lambton Public School Astronomy day. plan on showing 340 kids plus parents and teachers view through the c8 and the lunt.

went hunting on SOHO since i didnt image the spots - this is exactly what i saw in the thousand oaks.

Thanks Dave! After a few days of strong westerlies which shook telescope, mount and observer, today they dropped…but…the clouds came in so no sunspots for us in Brissie!

I suppose you could call it "high level intro approximo cubism".

Okay Dave, you fired me up! I dragged all the gear outside and plugged in the DMK to be greeted by high cloud blanketing the skies! After waiting patiently a thinning appeared and I managed to grab a single avi. It proved to be the only one as the seeing turned out to be rotten (a new category!), when the clouds permitted that is!

Mewlon 180, full aperture Baader Film Solar Filter, DMK31 at prime focus.

The image is mediocre due to the conditions; I’m only posting it to prove to myself that I can still set up the gear and use it to take images!

Hi Dave

The image is a central 800x600 crop from the DMK31 full frame of 1024x768. The quality of the frames from the AVI was so poor, that I just aligned on the central region with a single alignment point – it wasn’t worth the CPU cycles running MAP’s!

The crop also gets rid of a couple of nasty dust doughnuts!

Hi Dave & All,

Thanks for the alert Dave.

Been out this arvo to take a look with the PST and it is a quite a nice group with a fair few small spots in a double trail leading away from the larger double yolker.

Quite a large disturbed area around them that in the PST looks bright.

Good to see a bit of activity on the old-girl again.
