Hi all, I've been viewing the images posted on this forum with much envy while lurking in the shadows trying to get autoguiding sorted on an EQ6-R, but I thought I'd share this; just over 1 hours worth of frames with a OSC camera In less than ideal conditions. Stacked in Nebulosity V4.2 & processed using Startools. Any thoughts on the colours? My apologies about the image quality, I had a hard time getting down to the 200kb limit.
Cheers,
Tony
You asked about the colours ? I think it's a little over saturated but that's just me. I'm into soft colourings. Each to their own though.
Great effort
Thank you for your comments Ryan, I'm of the same view regarding soft colours. I'm still getting the hang of using Startools & so far I can't seem to get any soft, subtle colours out of it. The colours module is a bit of a challenge for me.
Cheers,
Tony

I've had a couple of little dabbles with Startools under advice from others and I'll concede it's got some cool tools in it but I just find that I have better control of my image in Photoshop, even if I do sometimes introduce my own problems by playing too much. To be fair Pixinsight blows both away but it does the same to your bank also so.... Maybe one day..... When I've finished buying Astro gear

Great image
Startools requires clean linear data so tweaking levels, curves, colour or anything else in your image after stacking is a no no
In the colour module try Artistic Detail Aware, keep your bright saturation about half way on the slider and adjust your Dark Saturation and Saturation to suit taste
Invert your colour bias sliders so you increase colour as you slide to the right, I find you have more control as the logic of colour control seems easier to manage
Don’t have to high RGB colour bias just tweak them up bit by bit
Maybe try a Star mask and colour your stars independently from the main Nebula
There’s some good YouTube clips on Startools which I found a great help . I’ve been using it for 9 months and still learning , still finding ways to improve the final image
Good luck
Cheers
I'm same as the others, turn down saturation. But maybe I should shut up - stones glass houses etc. I remember startools is a bit like that - it's a beast to be tamed.
Stars are nice and tight - looks like you got the guiding well sorted.
You could set your colour balance and saturation in DSS before saving the image for further processing elsewhere. Just a suggestion.

Good point Raymo, as it is, I'm trying to stay true to the correct workflow & give Startools a decent chance of showing me what it can do. for the reason Martin pointed out in his comments.
That said, I totally appreciate any input from an old master such as yourself.

Thanks Martin, I'll give those tips for the colour module a go & post the result.

Great effort in my view.
I think if you process usung star tools its best not to do anything in DSS other than stack...
Anyways I love images higly saturated and heaps of colour...just look at my most recent efforts☺
Keep them coming and dont be shy we are a mild mannered bunch here and welcome more members gettinf into astro photography.
Thanks Chris,
with regards to the guiding I seem to able to get 300sec exposures without too much trouble now as long as I recalibrate when I slew to a new target, is this the norm using the ST4 port? As for the posting frenzy, I'll do my best weather permitting.
