Intro post

Hi all I'm Luke.
I've been lurking around being referred to this page by many Google searches so thought i would sign up!
I'm new to the hobby but have been hooked by the sky for about 2 years. I visited my brother in law a few years ago and had a go on what i now know was an 8 inch dob and that got me sucked in. Like most people i thought it was really expensive and never thought i would get one myself. As soon as i found out the price to get started i told my partner what to get me next gifting opportunity. And here i am. I got an 8 inch dob, a pair of binoculars and a 4.5 inch newt on an eq mount as well as replaced the standard eyepieces that came with it (gave me headaches due to limited eye relief) as well as the rest of the kit. Been to a few star parties, made some great friends and am using my gear at every opportunity.
That's my story and I'm glad to be part of the community!

Welcome! I too was surprised at the low entry point for visual astronomy. But accessories and the lure of astrophotography await!

Hi Luke,
Welcome to IceInSpace .

Sounds like you got some good equipment there.
You have also done the most important thing next, going along to an observing session to mix with fellow enthusiasts.

Enjoy!

I agree, although the lure of astronomy and gear often will not see you have one scope but a few! I remember when I started and said I will only have one telescope ... all the guys in the club just laughed and said 'Yeah right' and now I have three! I too am trying to get into astrophotography and just starting to learn the basics.

Good luck with your endeavours with astronomy and welcome
