I watched a news report on this black hole event and the animation was very good at showing the streaming off of material from the Star. But as the astrophysicist explaining it pointed out, if there were any planets around that star they would have been pulled into the hole as well, a demise that no intelligent life form would want to ponder. It would be interesting to know exactly what happens to time on those supposed planets while this is going on.

If the crushing gravity doesn't get you first it would be a very long time circling the drain maybe?
