Omega Nebula with l-extreme filter OSC

Fun with the new optolong l-extreme filter

M17, the Omega Nebula with an 8" newt, ASI071. 39x 10min subs, 6.5 hrs total. Captured over 4 nights in Aug with SGPro and processed in pixinsight.

I can't seem to get much OIII colour in the centre, just around the edges. Maybe I've overblown it in the centre when stretching, so might go back to it next week.

Cheers Chris

Brilliant M17 well processed , great work !!
I have the same rig down at my weekender
I use my 6” f6 Newt in Sydney and have been trialling my new 2600MC camera with the ZWO 2” Duoband filter
Looking at your image I should have bought the L extreme filter !! I can hardly expose any OIII at all in my images or maybe it’s just my processing ??
Well done !!

Incredibly natural looking image Chris. Well done. I must admit I’m quite interested in this L-extreme with its tighter O3 bandpass which I feel would help further with the LP suppression. I often find it hard to process out the LP without losing the O3 with the STC Duo. Nothing against the duo but I think it still lets though too much that blends into the O3. How are you finding it in comparison? Is it the game changer it appears to be ?

Thanks all.

Martin. The main thing I found, thanks to Atmos, is to get the colour balance right early in processing. And he put up a really good workflow

Ryan. I think you can get this sort of image with any of the faux-narrowband filters. While I think it's a bit better than the duo, I haven't compared it on the same object. I started on the helix though and found I need double the sub exposure to the same amount of photons compared to the duo - so it is definitely more selective

Beautifully done Chris, looks like you've got the processing nailed down with the L-Extreme.
Cheers,
Tony

Top effort Chris the optilong extreme looks like its a good improvement over the L enhance which i think personally is already a excellent filter for a OSC. Love the colour and framing
