Stellarium or Equinox

Hi all. I hope everyone's getting clear skies of late.
I have an Advanced VX mount and Edge HD 8 " OTA and I'm researching control software hardware cables to connect up to guide the scope. I was wondering what hardware cables and interface I need to connect up using my MacBookPro laptop to the mount to assist in guiding? Can I use the Nexstar hand controller outlet to USB or do I need the serial port to USB converter cable. I would like to use Equinox or Stellarium software and wondering if anyone else is using these packages on a similar setup as mine?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Cheers -Rob

There's also sky safari for iOS, excellent if you want a cable-free connection to iPad.

I looked that one up earlier today. I think I read that there is a bit of lag when you are in a busy neighbourhood wi fi zone. Celestron were aware of it but I'm unsure whether the app has been patched.
