AOE90S as a First Scope

Hi All

Had a look around this website as I searched the Internet for information about scopes (reviews etc..) and I'm quite impressed with this site, mainly because its Australian and the people posting in these forums talk about stuff we can get here (as opposed to CN).

Anyway, I'm about to purchase an AOE90S f6.6 (90x600mm) on an EQ3A mount refractor as my first scope does anyone have experience with this scope? Is there any recommended accessories to buy (the scope comes with a star diagonal and 3 plossl (6,12,25mm) eyepieces)? I'm probably going to change the 12mm eyepiece for a 15mm. I've been very impressed with AOE so far (havn't bought the scope yet) as they have been very helpful!

Just a bit about myself, and why I'm buying the faster refractor. I study in Melbourne (at uni) but I return to Perth during breaks, so I'm getting the shorter refractor to aid in portability. I'm probably going to purchase a larger scope (maybe an LXD75 6N, or some other Mak) later on. Also if I decide to do some astrophotography later on a lager scope I could use this smaller refractor as a guide scope.

I'll mainly (well, only) be using this refractor for astronomical visual useage.

Thank guys and gals!

-Justin

G'day Justin, Welcome to IIS... You may be better to spend more on a better mount that will be useful in the future..see this thread http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ead.php?t=4552 ......

Hello and welcome aboard Justin. I don't know much about the AOE90S just make sure the Alt/Az mount is nice and stable.

Thanks for directing me to the right places.

I did consider getting the mount upgraded to an Eq-5 but i would like to have a ligher mount that i can take with me when I travel. Also I'm Hoping I can use the scope on my camera/video tripod if I want to use it in Alt-Az mode (at least for low power viewing).

Also considering that I might purchase an LXD75 in the future I don't think I'll need the bigger mount.

Thanks for the help anyway, I'll post up how the scope goes when I get it!

-Justin

I'd also like to know that. I've heard that the AOE127 and AOE152 refractors are the same ones that Meade use (for their LXD75 refractors i think).

Ask them! The AOE people are very good communicators and will answer question after question even about cheap products.
