Smile Just like to say hi.

Hi all.
Just like to say hello to one and all before I start asking dumb questions and that I have learned heaps reading these posts. Its nice to have an Australian astronomy forum. Have just upgraded from a $5 Optics brand 4.5 inch reflector (that included the tripod!!) to a GSO 10 inch dob from Lee's which I will test shortly because the cloud has gone for while.

Anyway thanks again for having me and I hope one day I can answer a few questions rather than ask them.
Cheers from Mick.

Well done on the 10" dob, i have one too, they are a lot of fun!

I have had mine nearly two months and love it. I am still very new, and hopefully can still answer questions or queries for what may seem like stupid things, because i have had them too.

Having said that, there seems to be a new dob owner every week joining the forum, and to the experienced guy's credit here on the forum, each time, they are welcomed with open arms. The same issues of focussing, collimation, imaging, what eyepieces to buy are always asked. These guys treat these same inquiries as if it were the first time they have been asked. There never is a sense of " not again "

Ask away on everything, there are guys here that are producing international quality work in imaging on equipment that is 10's of $1000.

If they can't answer you, then no-one can!

and Mick. Not only another Dob owner but another Mick as well. Seems to be as many of them around here as there are Dobs. Or maybe they are just the loudest...opps I mean most active

Welcome anyway Mick. Enjoy your new obssession and your experience here. Oh sorry it wasn't and Obsession was it, it was a GSO. Bit of a dob joke there. You'll get it eventually.

Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome all. A little more info on myself and gear, Nana Glen is 25 km NW of Coffs Harbour NSW (30S 153E), its only claim to fame is its where a certain phone throwing movie star has his "farm" that he got married on, now on to something interesting. I came across the forum when I was looking for solar filters and up came Mike Salway and his filter, (that reminds me, Telescopes and Astronomy dont seem to sell the film anymore) so from there, here I am. I also have a amateur radio license, VK2BH just incase there are hams (radio type ) in the forum. As for gear I have:

GSO 10" dob (page 31 in Septembers Aust Sky & Telescope)
GSO right-angle correct-image finderscope. (page 98 in AS&T)
4, 6.5, 9, 25 ep's (came with it)
3x GSO barlow (bought as a extra)
4 colour filters (came with it)
Optic 4.5" reflector (looks like it doubled as a cricket bat before I got it)
Tasco 60mm refractor
Software is Starrynight backyard, old but good.
Cartes du ciel, found on this forum.
Tried the Starrynight digital dowload, fantastic program but after the dob another AU$68 was pushing my luck.

Hope I have answered all the questions, let me know if I missed any. Think I will post a few myself.
Cheers.
