NZ quakes 2013-08-17

Any news from across the ditch? There was a mention on the news but not much detail. USGS has 7 quakes mag 5 and above today, starting with a mag 6.8 and all within 64km of Blenheim.

No deaths or serious injuries reported so far. Only relatively minor damage, although the odd bit of moderate stuff. Swarms of quakes occurred throughout the night and into this morning. Wellington residents were mostly just shaken but those across the Cook Strait copped most of it, especially around the small town of Seddon.

A lot of nervous people at the moment, hoping it's all fading back to calm and not just the precursor of a Big One still to come.

(Wellington and Seddon sit above the Alpine Fault.)
