I have been posting a fair number of images lately. I am having a small issue in that an image that looks great on my laptop looks much less punchy when I post it on FB or here on IIS. The objects of interest are often much darker and don't jump out like I want them too. The background seems OK but its like the algorithms that are used to set them up for display kinda "flatten" them.
I have tried making the image overall brighter but that starts introducing artifacts I am not happy with.
Any thoughts?
Malcolm when exporting/saving your final version to jpg, make sure you export using the sRGB colour profile for the internet.
Browsers use this profile to display images.
You have to consider the calibration of your monitor, the colour profile embedded in the image (sRGB versus AdobeRGB versus no profile at all) and the web browser used to display the image. Only Firefox reliably interprets colour profiles properly, closely followed by MS Edge. Chrome is hopeless!
As RB points out, always use the sRGB colour space for images to be displayed on the web.
In any case, step one is usually to calibrate your monitor.
