Hot/Cold/Bad pixel map in PI - HOW?

Having troubles with either VNG or Bilinear debayered images in PI - all goes well until registration, when PI will register the brighter RGB bad pixels perfectly, but ignores the stars. I have tried every conceivable registration permutation and combination.

So, the only answer I can see is to create a bad pixel map, but I cannot see the process in PI.

Appreciate the help.

I tried that Rick, but it wants a text file specifying the coords for the bad pixels - how do I auto-create the bad pixel map in the first place???

Very frustrated at this point. Almost feel like running the bad pixel map in CCDStack (that is SIMPLE), then putting these cleaned fits into PI to then run the registration and alignment.

The Batch Preprocess script did a good job, but having a very hard time extracting the correct colours from it despite specifying the correct debayer matrix.

See pic below. Just click on row or column, type a number where it says '0', add limits if you want then click on "Add Defect." Repeat as many times as you like then save the defect list for future use (or just make a process icon and save that.)

Thanks Rick, I realised that, but there are SO many per row and column, can we not just create a bad pixel map from a dark or similar as CCDStack so easily does using rejection algorithms?

Click on "Use Master Dark" and set the parameters and you're effectively generating a bad pixel map from a master dark. You can even do a real-time preview to check the results as you tweak the parameters.

Personally, I just use Auto Detect along with a list of bad columns (the perils of large KAF sensors.) Add a bit of dither and the results are clean as...

...as with Sony sensors straight from the camera!

Finally got everything to integrate perfectly - though I did use a combination of CCDStack rejection and PI registration and integration.

Now to get colour out of the darned thing I might be hoping for too much...

I think I didn't mask the stars QUITE enough. Bugger Anyway, it is just a PI 101 anyways.

More like a combo of CCDStack, PI and PS

I still look at some PI functions and think I am not sufficiently educated to understand what they do

That should be PixInsight's slogan I love it but dont always understand it. I write my own notes for doing things, often using different PI functions to do what i'm trying to do.

I find working through video tutorials to be helpful, even if the description is something I think i already understand. you just end up seeing how people use or explain the tools and it all helps you learn the product and find tricks "for doing X". you also realise you might be struggling with a complex tool when there is a simpler version in PI too that will do what you want easier.
