Dob altitude stiction
I haven't been happy with the action of the altitude bearings on my dob. Azimuth is fine but just couldn't make fine adjustments to altitude without some "jumping". After much searching online, it became obvious that I was not alone.
So I followed the advice posted here by mental4astro and Roger Davis (apologies if I missed anyone but those are the ones I found) and cleaned the bearings with isopropyl alcohol and applied some (very expensive) carnauba car wax to the large bearing surfaces on the OTA. I'm not sure if the four small white bearings are Teflon on a Skywatcher but as per the advice, I just cleaned them with alcohol.
As suggested, the action is now very smooth. I haven't tried it for real yet but a static test in the garage shows a very big improvement.
Thanks to all for the excellent advice.
