Gippsland Star Party 2024 Images

Hi all,

I grabbed these two images at the GSP last weekend, taking advantage of the wonderfully clear, dark skies of Buchan. Aside from the insane amount of dew, it was a great weekend away and so good to talk to other astro enthusiasts.

The Eta Carina image is a 2x2 mosaic (suitably scaled down) whilst the Tarantula is the usual single-frame. Both taken using the ASI183MC-Pro / L-Enhance combo that works so well to highlight all the Ha / Oiii data out there.

There are higher quality (4k pixel) versions of these image on my blog, if you're interested.

Cheers,
V.

Hi Steve
I was parked next to you at Buchan; great photos. I'd like to checkout your blog but can't find it (am I being dull?). It was great to meet you and learn about mosiacs.

Hi David,

Thanks! The dark sky out there was so good... I can't wait to get back out to somewhere similar and capture more good data. Imaging from Melbourne is frustrating at times.

It was good to meet you, too. Hopefully your power cable has learned the error of it's ways and won't be disconnecting itself anytime soon...

My blog can be found here: https://blog.teamrc17.net

I'll warn you that every post is a big chunk of text with the images at the bottom, so feel free to skip all the verbiage and go straight to the good stuff.

Cheers,
V.

Thanks! . The skies were measured at a hair's-breadth off Bortle 1 by one of the attendees. Once the moon went down, the stars were bright enough to walk around by, no torches needed.

It wasn't all fun, though - the dew was so heavy overnight that I had pools of water forming on my equipment cases. A great venue, too.

There was. It was announced by BigDave last August (https://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/...d.php?t=206727) and I posted a reminder in January. If you are in the ASV, it was flogged pretty heavily in their email newsletters.

They've already booked the venue for 2025, in late March.

Cheers,
V.

Love the blog - will spend sometime working through it.

I live about 10km north of Bairnsdale and am spoilt with Bortle 2/3 skies and a big backyard. I'm tempted to have a star party in the garden ...

ASV-Bairnsdale now exists and is slowly coming up to speed.
